Tesla Track Day: Hosted by Out of Spec Motoring
Out of Spec is hosting a track day for Tesla owners in and around the Carolinas. You will have the chance to open up your Tesla on track at your own pace. It will take place at NCCAR in Garysburg NC on March 9.
We will have a morning and afternoon session, both with a maximum of 20 cars.
Beginners: For many Tesla owners this will be a first time track experience. We will start each section with a safety discussion that will also go over the track layout. We will offer sighting laps in a Model X where an instructor can show you the proper lines and some tips and tricks. Our goal is to make this an easy, fun, and safe experience. To ensure this, only 5 cars will be on track at any given time. Each group will have a 15 minute run time every hour for 4 hours so you will have plenty of opportunity to build up your speed and confidence over the four sessions. A track day isn’t racing, it’s purpose is to build your confidence behind the wheel in dynamic driving situations as well as to test yourself and your car.
Charging: We recommend everyone complete a near full charge at the Rocky Mount Supercharger if coming from the south or South Hill Supercharger if coming from the north / north west. The track has many NEMA 14-50s for us to charge on so please bring your mobile connector to charge with. Your car on track will consume a significantly higher amount of energy than street driving (well over 1,000Wh/mi) so plan accordingly.
The Track / Amenities: NCCAR is a 2 mile long 40 foot wide road course with ½ mile straightaway, 11 constant radius corners, large grassy run-off shoulders and minimal barriers. Our group will be running the track in the clockwise direction. A shared lunch between the first and second sessions will be catered and bottled water will be available throughout the day. There will be a shaded seating area track side so you can watch the action comfortably.
Preparing your car: It is necessary to ensure your car is in top working order before ripping up the track. Make sure your tires have plenty of tread left and that none of the tires have been repaired with plugs or patches as those can fail during a high heat / high stress event. In addition, check your brake pads (have at least 50% pad material left). There are many shops that will do a once over check on your car before a track day to make sure it’s good to go. Please reach out if you’re looking for suggestions.
